1. Craft for Ganesh Chaturthi – Crafting Ganesha Idols

Making a Ganesha idol at home can be a fun and creative activity. You can use clay, playdough, or even eco-friendly materials like turmeric and flour.
Decorating the idol with beads, sequins, and colors allows children to express their creativity while learning about the festival’s significance.
We used this air-dry Modeling clay from Michaels to make our Ganesha this year.
We also had Play-Doh for the little ones to craft their Ganesha, as well as Terra Cotta Crayola air-dry clay.
Pro tip – Place butter paper or ziplock bags at the bottom before starting to sculpt your Ganesha. That will prevent it from sticking to the floor and also make it easier to lift the idol later.
This was a very easy tutorial for everyone to follow for making our Ganesha.
2. Ganesh Chaturthi Activities for Preschoolers – Coloring Page

Children can enjoy drawing or coloring pictures of Lord Ganesha. This activity not only keeps them engaged but also helps them connect with the festival on a visual level.
3. Making Modaks
Involve children in the kitchen by letting them help make modaks or any other sweets that you would like to make.
They can help in kneading the dough, shaping the modaks/laddoos, or even just watching the process.
Cooking together is a great way to bond as a family and pass on culinary traditions.
We used this easy-peasy recipe to make our coconut laddoos.
4. Ganesha Stories

Storytelling is a wonderful way to teach children about the stories of Lord Ganesha. You can read from books or narrate these stories in your own words.
Make the story interactive by asking questions or encouraging children to retell the stories in their own way.
There are several stories about Ganesha; some of the popular tales include how Ganesha got his elephant head, the story of his wisdom in winning the race against his brother Kartikeya, and the lesson behind his love for sweets.

5. Eco-Friendly Ganesh Chaturthi Visarjan

If you’re celebrating at home, you can teach children about the importance of eco-friendly practices by organizing a small, symbolic visarjan.
Instead of immersing the idol in a river or sea, you can immerse a clay idol in a bucket of water at home.
The dissolved clay can then be used to plant a sapling, reinforcing the idea of returning to nature.
To take the eco-friendly visarjan one step further, this is a link to make your Ganesha with turmeric, wheat flour, and milk.
6. Games for Ganpati Festival
Organize fun games that revolve around Ganesha.
- A scavenger hunt where children have to find objects related to Ganesha, like modaks, a small mouse (Mushak), or a toy elephant.
- You can also play the game “Pin the Trunk on Ganesha,” where blindfolded children try to place a paper trunk on a picture of Ganesha.
- This is a link to a Pin the Nose on Elephant game, which is technically not Ganesha but may be used as a fun way to start conversations about Ganesha. This also makes for a fun game for birthday parties.
7. Have Fun with Music and Dance
Ganesh Chaturthi is a time for cultural performances, including music and dance.
