OUR STORY

The idea for creating something like this website was born in 2019. All the ideas were there in my head and I wasn’t sure how to put all that on paper. So, my husband had to give me a little nudge (okay, maybe a big one) to get me writing.

I’m not exactly the “write-every-day” type, and with so many other interests I was pursuing at the time, picking just one to focus on was a challenge.

Both my husband and I are deeply connected to our Indian roots, and it felt essential for us that our kids understand and appreciate that cultural richness.

What finally got me going? Our older son started school, and despite our best efforts, teaching him Hindi was becoming a battle. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and dive into his Hindi education headfirst.

It was confusing! He loved English workbooks but treated the Hindi ones like they were chores.

The Challenge

While our son could speak Hindi, sure, but trying to get him to enjoy those worksheets where you write the same alphabet a hundred times? Forget it. And then there was the whole “Mom, can I just say this in English?” thing, despite our gentle (read: persistent) reminders.

The Emotions

Cue the parent guilt. We kept asking ourselves, “What are we doing wrong? Why doesn’t our kid want to speak our language?” There was also this bit of heartbreak knowing he was losing the ability to really communicate with our family back home. Even though he spoke Hindi, without the cultural context, something was missing.

The Solution

So, I went all DIY and started creating activity sheets with some downloaded fonts, breaking through the first wall. After a lot of trial and error (and a whole lot of love), we found new ways to teach the alphabet that didn’t involve boring drills.

This website is my way of helping other parents who feel the same way. It’s still a work in progress, so hang tight!
And hey, if you have suggestions on content ideas from other parts of India that you’d like to see here, let me know. I’ll do my best to learn and share them with everyone.
